A Swedish family has eaten only organic food for two weeks as part of a study conducted by The Swedish Environmental Research Institute.
The study – commissioned by Swedish supermarket chain Coop – saw the family dramatically change its diet, with impressive results.
A video about the study introduced the family of five, with mother Anette explaining why they typically didn’t eat organic food.
“It costs more than conventional food and we’re a big family,” she said in the video.
Anette, her husband Mats and three children all had their urine tested before the study and it was found to contain a number of different pesticides including insecticides, fungicides and plant growth regulators.
During the two weeks, they had their urine tested daily to track any changes.
At the end of the two weeks, almost all the pesticides found in their bodies were gone.
“When you hear this, you think about your children,” Anette said.
“There were a whole number of chemicals removed from my kids’ bodies and I don’t want them back.”
