Medication Injuries
Medication side effects, also called “medication injuries,” were found to be especially harmful to patients over 65 years of age. In fact, adverse effects from meds cause more harm than no treatment or improper treatment. Wow! That’s huge.
What drugs are especially causing issues?
- Antibiotics (disrupt microbiome and immune system and put more at risk for other infections and thus, yet more antibiotics)
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (these ding the gut, too but also are anti-progestins and block the brain/nervous system protective actions of natural progesterone made by both men and women to protect our nervous system, not just for women for babies)
- Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (these can cause falls, fractures, organ damage and even low blood pressure too much increasing the risk of glaucoma, over time).
This is according to an analysis of no-fault claims data from New Zealand. October 2015 Annals of Family Medicine.
It is ALWAYS prudent to see what natural therapies may offer for an issue, or work with your doc to only use drug therapy for the shortest stint possible and then switch over to naturals.
Some times you must be on meds. But ALL meds rinse out some nutrients, which MUST be replaced, and MOST meds (even aspirin) have other issues that specific nutrients can protect you while you have to be on the med.
Most docs do not know this, understand this, discuss this OR have the time to consider this, with themselves or you.
Work with medical nutritionists trained in this aspect of drug/nutrient/food interactions.
