I love Dave Asprey.

So does much of the world.

We always wait in anticipation of his newest book.

A few weeks ago Dave wrote me that he referenced my work and our podcast together in Game Changers: What Leaders & Mavericks Do to Win at Life. He wanted to know if I would pass on this, his latest greatest book, with you, my tribe?

So, Dave and I got together for quick chat.

Here is our interview on how to make the changes in your life you long to make, in this New Year!

Enjoy!

  1. Why did you write your latest astounding and MUST READ book… Game Changers?

My latest book, Game Changers: What Leaders & Mavericks Do to Win at Life, distills wisdom from over 450 interviews with remarkably successful world-changers who have been guests on Bulletproof Radio. In the book, I share 46 laws designed to help readers reveal a more powerful, higher performing self.

Game Changers summarizes the most important advice from people who have learned how to be smarter, faster and happier. These are experts who are not only pushing boundaries in their fields but also often extending them to the cutting edge of what is possible.

If someone had just told me all this stuff when I was sixteen or twenty or even thirty, it would have saved me years of struggle, hundreds of thousands of dollars, and a lot of unnecessary pain. I truly believe that if only five people read it and experience the kinds of results I did, it was worth the effort. I still believe that. In fact, the desire to offer other people the tools that have changed my life is the guiding force behind my entire company.

  1. You say to become a game changer we need speed, to do it “faster”— what does this mean and what’s one essential tool in gaining this “swiftness” to success?

Most of the advice in the book falls into one of three categories: things that make you smarter, things that make you faster, and things that make you happier. The laws that relate to faster will help you make your body more efficient so that you have as much mental and physical energy as possible for the things you want to do. It’s difficult to change the game if you’re sluggish and weak, but when you maximize your physical output using all the tools at your disposal, you can do more than you ever imagined you could.

In 2008, a group of scientists decided to focus on boosting working memory, a part of short-term memory. Working memory is critical to fluid intelligence, and those scientists wanted to see if improving someone’s working memory would also boost their fluid intelligence.

They asked people to practice a simple two-minute test called the Dual N-Back to improve their working memory. After five weeks of practicing for half an hour a day, the people’s fluid intelligence increased on average by 40 percent. That was an incredible finding.

One of my favorite tools to improve your fluid intelligence is by doing Dual N-Back training. I recommend the Dual N-Back app by Mikko Tyrskeranta on the iTunes and Android stores.

  1. What’s the Bullet Proof definition of bio-hacking?

“Biohacking” is the art and science of becoming superhuman, or in other terms, the art of changing the environment outside of you and inside of you so you have full control of your biology, to allow you to upgrade your body, mind, and your life. If we want better outputs—to have more energy and focus, to be free of disease, to have a better memory, to perform optimally in business and athletics—then we must tweak the things we put into our body and mind to stack the deck in our favor.

  1. What do you mean by a “weasel word?”

As I upgraded my abilities to focus, pay attention, and think using biohacking, I gained the ability to pay attention to my words as I use them. I discovered that I often used self-limiting words before I even had a chance to think about them. My subconscious was choosing safe words that made unimportant things feel huge, and words that allowed me wiggle room to procrastinate safely. I call these “weasel words.”

People who work with me know that I’ll call out someone in a meeting who uses weak language in a subconscious attempt to avoid responsibility. Clear speech means clear thinking and clear execution.

Using self-limiting words such as “need,” “can’t,” “bad,” and “try” can limit you mentally, make unimportant things feel huge and allow wiggle room to procrastinate safely.

I deliberately choose truthful words to build trust and break free from self-imposed limitations.

So, stop trying and start doing.

  1. Why is “gratitude” so essential in rewiring our brains to become game changers?

Practicing gratitude leaves a lasting imprint on your nervous system, making you more sensitive to positive thinking. This means that the more you practice gratitude, the more you will default to positivity instead of negativity.

The more you naturally tend toward positive thinking, the better can transcend your base instincts and spend your precious energy moving the needle for yourself and perhaps the rest of humanity, too.

  1. Why did you mention Dr. Berkson’s book SEXY BRAIN and having her on your Bulletproof Radio Show in your new book?

Dr. Berkson is a leading authority on hormones and believes they do much more than sexy or reproductive things; they rule the brain and even our mitochondria. Dr. Berkson’s relentless passion to share this information, as well as tips on how to act upon it, add much to our ability to effectively biohack.”  – Dave Asprey
